SMART MOBILITY SOLUTIONS: PASSENGER

The urban mobility landscape is in the midst of a transformative change, with the emergence of new modes and services that are shared, on-demand and integrated. Research at the ITS lab on emerging modes and services spans both the design of the underlying operational algorithms and the assessment of short-, medium- and long-term impacts on mobility and transportation systems using detailed models of travel behavior, fleet operations and multimodal network performance. The  ‘smart’ passenger mobility solutions being studied include urban air mobility, automated mobility-on-demand, flexible mobility-on-demand and mobility-as-a-service.

SMART MOBILITY SOLUTIONS: FREIGHT

Evaluating innovative solutions for the issues faced in urban freight movements. Solutions range from policies, such as congestion pricing, to technologies, such as new modes. Evaluations leverage the development and application of agent-based models replicating movement of goods and materials in the urban environment.

SMART MOBILITY SOLUTIONS: NETWORK MANAGEMENT

Urban traffic congestion continues to be a pervasive problem worldwide resulting in significant costs to the individual, economy and environment. At the ITS lab, we are involved in research that leverages advances in technology and online analytics (prediction, optimization, personalization) to design innovative solutions for network management including distance-based congestion pricing, personalized pricing, tradable permits, travel incentives and V2X communications.
